In a post on Twitter, the PMK leader said a youth activist committed suicide after losing money while gambling online.
The Madras High Court on November 29, 2023 refused to completely strike down the Tamil Nadu Online Gambling Prohibition and Online Games Regulation Act, 2022.
The PMK leader, in his appeal to the Tamil Nadu government, said that since the Madras High Court verdict, at least 12 people have sacrificed their lives in connection with online gambling in the state.
“In the last month alone, six people have committed suicide after losing money,” the PMK leader said.
Anbumani Ramadoss said that the state government should approach the Supreme Court and said that immediate steps should be taken regarding online gambling as many innocent people lose their lives after falling into the trap of online gambling.
