Sharing his experiences during the pandemic times, Shanti said that hundreds of dead bodies would arrive at the Seemapuri cremation ground almost on a daily basis, as he was cremating unclaimed bodies, so he could not go home for 21 days.

He revealed that his neighbors objected to his frequent visits to the crematorium as it posed a risk of spreading the virus to their homes.

Recalling the interesting incident, Shanti said that when he was performing the last rites at 2.30 in the night, his driver told him, "Sir, a phone call is for you and the caller said, he is at the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) ) is speaking from.

Shanti told her driver, "My hands are dirty, you pick up the phone near my ear."

He said that he was shocked and surprised after 'hearing the voice on the other side'.

“PM Modi told me, I am watching you on television. You are doing a noble work by cremating unclaimed dead bodies. The whole country is with you. You should continue doing this work with full determination.”

He said that the episode served as a huge morale booster for him as the country's top leader acknowledged and appreciated his work.

Then I realized how closely PM Modi used to watch every incident and he had an eye on every small thing.

H said, "It was a great learning experience for me that one should always remain rooted and grounded despite all one's power and strength."
