Minister of State (Independent Charge) for AYUSH, Jadhav said this year's theme 'Yoga for Self and Society' highlights the dual role of Yoga in promoting individual and social well-being.

It emphasizes fostering a connection between the inner-self and the outside world beyond one's own well-being, Jadhav said.

The Minister said, “Yoga promotes physical, mental and spiritual development while promoting social harmony. The enthusiastic participation of millions of people in recent years reflects the deep impact of Yoga on communities.,

He also announced that the Prime Minister has written a letter to every village head to encourage grassroots level participation and spread of Yoga in rural areas.

Jadhav launched 'Common Yoga Protocol Book in Braille' to help visually impaired people learn and practice yoga with convenience. The minister also launched Professor Ayushman comic on Yoga. This book will help children to learn and practice yoga with interest and entertainment.

Heeding the call of Prime Minister Modi, the United Nations General Assembly in December 2014 had announced to celebrate June 21 every year as IDY.The IDY resolution of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in December 2014 came on the initiative of PM Modi and was passed unanimously.

Since 2015, Jadhav said, IDY has grown into a mass movement across the world.

AYUSH Secretary Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha said that IDY is not only a celebration but also a concerted effort to bring about behavioral change so that people adopt yoga in their lives so that they can get the benefits of yoga.

He further highlighted the 'whole of government' approach to IDY celebrations, emphasizing coordinated efforts across various government departments and active participation of state governments to ensure an inclusive and widespread observance each year.

He said, State Governments as well as Union Territories are also actively participating in IDY 2024.The National AYUSH Mission team is also actively engaged in organizing IDY programs across the country.

This year, IDY will have several events including 'Yoga for Space'. In collaboration with the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), a unique initiative named 'Yoga for Space' is being organized in which all ISRO scientists/officials will perform Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) on IDY.

The Gaganyaan project team will also participate in IDY 2024.

The Ministry of AYUSH has already launched a video competition through MyGov portal and MyBharat portal to raise awareness about Yoga and motivate people to become active participants in the observation of IDY 2024.As a part of the competition families will have to record a short video of up to one minute demonstrating harmonious yoga.

To promote technology and start-ups in the field of Yoga, the Ministry has organized Yoga Tech Challenge on MyGov Portal and MyBharat Portal with the objective of identifying and promoting those start-ups or individuals who have developed innovative technology in the field of Yoga. Last year, the global celebration of IDY was led by Modi at the UN Headquarters in New York, US, while the national celebration was led by Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh.
