Rajgir (Bihar), Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be in Bihar next week to inaugurate the campus of Nalanda University, named after the world famous ancient center of learning.

State government and central university officials held a meeting here on Saturday to monitor preparations for the Prime Minister's visit on June 19.

Dignitaries such as Governor Rajendra Arlekar and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar are likely to attend the ceremony, where the Prime Minister is expected to spend one and a half hours.

The Prime Minister is likely to reach the venue by helicopter from the nearest airport in Gaya.

Located less than 20 km from Nalanda Mahavira, declared a World Heritage Site, the university was established by an Act of Parliament in 2010.

Earlier, a proposal to establish an international university on the lines of the learning center that existed till the 13th century was supported by member countries at the East Asia Summit.

Earlier, the then President APJ Abdul Kalam had proposed the revival of the ancient university in his address to the joint session of the legislature in Bihar.

The huge campus is spread over an area of ​​approximately 450 acres, and the university offers a number of courses in Hindu Studies, Buddhist Studies and Comparative Religions, and Ecological and Environmental Studies.
