Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh) [India], Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a road show in Kanpur on Saturday in support of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
PM Modi was seen waving to people standing on both sides of the road and showing BJP's election symbol 'Lotus' to garner support for the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was also present during the road show. As per the seat agreement between Samajwadi Party and Congress in Uttar Pradesh, Congress is contesting on 17 seats. And the Samajwadi Party has the remaining 63 seats in the electorally crucial state. In the 2019 general elections, the BJP emerged victorious, securing 62 seats out of 8 in Uttar Pradesh, apart from its ally Apna Da (S) which got two seats. Mayawati's BSP managed to secure 10 seats, while Akhilesh Yadav's S got five seats. In contrast, the Congress Party won only one seat. ​​The general elections are being held in seven phases over six weeks from April 19 to June 1. Voting for the first phase and second phase were held on 19 April and 26 April respectively. The next round of voting will take place on May 7. The results will be declared on June 4.
