Chandrapur, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday compared the Congress to a bitter gourd, whose taste will never change even if it is fried in ghee or mixed with sugar, and said the grand old party is the source of all problems in the country.

He declared that the upcoming Lok Sabha elections are a battle between stability and instability and accused the opposition of only wanting power to indulge in corruption.

Addressing his first rally in Maharashtra ahead of the 2024 elections, Modi targeted the Congress and held it responsible for all the problems in the country.

"Congress is the source of all problems in the country. Who was responsible for the division of the country on the basis of religion... Kashmir (issue) Naxalism? Who opposed the construction of Ram temple and questioned the existence of Lord Ram.Who rejected the invitation to Ram Mandir (inauguration)?” He addressed the gathering in Chandrapur, the only Lok Sabha seat won by the Congress in 2019.

The 138-year-old party has lost people's support due to its actions and the recently released manifesto bears the imprint of the pro-partition Muslim League.

"The Congress has been out of power for 10 years and we have been able to solve all the problems faced by the country. The Naxalite problem has reduced drastically. The Congress was soft on terrorism for vote-bank politics.Even its manifesto supporting Muslims has 'League imprint,'' Modi alleged.

He alleged that the BJP-led NDA government worked for development while the opposition party "Indian Alliance wants power only to indulge in corruption".

Modi said that his government has worked for the upliftment of the poor in the last one year.

Comparing Congress to bitter gourd, the PM said that even if it is mixed with sugar or fried in ghee, its taste will never change. He said wood from Chandrapur was used to build the Ram temple in Ayodhya and the new Parliament building in Delhi.
