New Delhi, Congress on Sunday targeted Prime Minister Narendra

Recalling the 'drama' over Chief Minister N Biren Singh's resignation last year, party general secretary Jairam Ramesh said Modi was still 'not finding time' to visit conflict-torn Manipur.

"Exactly a year ago, a big resignation drama was organized in Imphal," Ramesh said in a post on X, sharing a photo of Singh's torn resignation letter.

"The pain and suffering of Manipur continues. The non-biological Prime Minister has time for everything else except visiting the troubled state or even talking to its elected representatives face to face," he said.

Manipur has been on the boil since May last year as caste violence broke out after Kuki tribals marched in the hill districts in protest of the valley-dominant Meitei community's demand for Scheduled Tribe status.

At the height of the ethnic conflict in Manipur last year, Singh came close to resigning in June, but his supporters prevented him from stepping down.

Hundreds of women formed a human chain and stopped him from going to the Governor House to resign. The resignation letter was also torn by him.

In the recent Lok Sabha elections, Congress won both the seats of Manipur – Outer Manipur and Inner Manipur.

Since then, more than 220 people from both communities and security personnel have been killed. The BJP-led government is in power in the state since 2017.
