Jammu, Kashmir BJP president Ravinder Raina on Saturday urged workers and leaders to work together to ensure that the Union Territory gets its first prime minister from the saffron party by single-handedly winning the upcoming elections to the assembly.

Addressing hundreds of party delegates attending the two-day 'Vistarit Karyasamiti Baithak' that began at Mishriwala near here on Friday, Raina slammed the Congress and National Conference for allegedly exploiting different sections of people for politics of the vote banks.

Union ministers G Kishan Reddy and Jitendra Singh, national general secretary in-charge of J&K Tarun Chugh and other senior BJP leaders including former deputy chief ministers Nirmal Singh and Kavinder Gupta attended the meeting which began in BJP headquarters here.

BJP national president and Union minister J P Nadda will also attend the meeting in the second half to discuss the party's roadmap for the upcoming elections in Jammu and Kashmir.

"We have to give a commitment before we leave this meeting that we will work towards a majority in the next assembly elections. Our commitment is to form the next government on our own and have a BJP chief minister and we have to work together to achieve this goal," Raina said.

The meeting began with participants paying rich tributes to BJP ideologue Syama Prasad Mookerjee on his 123rd birth anniversary. Mookerjee was one of the founders of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, the precursor of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Mookerjee, who strongly opposed the now repealed Article 370 that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir, died under mysterious circumstances in 1953, soon after his arrest in Jammu and Kashmir following his agitation over the challenge "Ek desh mein do Vidhan, do Pradhan aur Do Nishan nahi".
