The petition said that the SC Building is one of the important memorial buildings constructed after India's independence and several courts, tribunals and government establishments, currently functioning on rental basis in private properties, can be accommodated there.

Petitioner KK Ramesh argued that the SC building needs to be used for some other purpose instead of being demolished.

The PIL said that at present the apex court has 17 court rooms and two registrar court rooms and the Center is going to demolish the entire building and Rs 80 crore will be spent on reconstruction of 27 court rooms along with four registrar court rooms. .

“Creating 27 court rooms along with four registrar court rooms will not help after 10 years because with the rapidly growing economy and civilization, the number of cases in the Supreme Court is also increasing rapidly. After 10 years, 27 courtrooms may cause huge inconvenience to the Indian people,” it added.

Apart from this, it has been said in the petition that the Center did not release the new design of the SC building and did not discuss the new building design with the common people and the Bar Association.
