Jaipur, Rajasthan School Education Minister Madan Dilawar on Monday said mobile phones have become a "disease" and teachers will not be allowed to carry them inside schools.

The minister said that the education department is trying to implement the previous orders and efforts are also being made to improve the environment in schools.

He said that the department is trying to ensure that no teacher leaves the school on the pretext of prayer.

If they want to do so, teachers can take leave and get it recorded, Dilawar said. He said anyone leaving school without prior leave application would be held liable for suspension and even dismissal.

"No one will take a mobile phone inside the school. Even if they take it by mistake, they will have to submit it to the school principal," he said.

"Mobile phones have become a disease. School teachers, whether male or female, keep watching the stock market... I don't know what things they keep watching," Dilawar told reporters.

The minister said that only school principals will be allowed to use mobile phones and they will inform teachers in case of any emergency.

He said, "This will save the academic loss of students."
