Mhow (Madhya Pradesh), On Sunday, a large number of people and politicians paid tribute to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar on his 133rd birth anniversary at his birthplace Mhow in Indore district of Madhya Pradesh.

Several politicians including MP Deputy Chief Minister Jagdish Deora, Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya, Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Umang Singhar and local MLA Usha Thakur reached Mhow to commemorate the chief architect of the Constitution.

Before returning without holding any political rally or public meeting due to the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, he garlanded the statue of Dr Ambedkar amid slogans praising the Dalit organisation.

A contingent of about 50 retired ex-servicemen from the Mahar Regiment of the Indian Army gave a grand salute to Dr. Ambedkar at around 11.30 am.

The Madhya Pradesh government had opened a memorial of Dr. Ambedkar at Mhow, about 25 km from the district headquarters, on April 14, 2008.

Rajesh Wankhede, secretary of the Ambedkar Memorial Society, said turnout in Sunda was lower than in previous years and attributed it to the ongoing campaigning across the country ahead of the parliamentary elections.

“Most people come to this place from the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra. Prominent people there called me and told me about the low turnout (this time). For the same reason, no political party held public meetings in Maho this year. Leaders of various parties just paid their tributes,'' he said.
