Mumbai, Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar has expressed unhappiness over state BJP minister Chandrakant Patil's remarks on Sharad Pawar during the recent Lok Sabha election campaign.

Blaming the BJP minister for the negative impact on voting, Ajit Pawar, whose wife lost to Supriya Sule in Baramati by over 1.5 lakh votes, said Patil should not have made the statement against his uncle.

While addressing journalists in Baramati, Patil had made clear his intentions to defeat Sharad Pawar in his stronghold. He had accused the NCP patron of undermining the 2019 election mandate by snatching away Shiv Sena and supporting the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance, despite the alliance securing 161 MLA seats.

Patil had said during the election campaign, "I and my party workers want the defeat of Sharad Pawar in Baramati and this is enough for us."

Ajit Pawar had then reacted to Patil's comment by saying, “Sharad Pawar was not a candidate from Baramati Lok Sabha seat. This was a wrong statement given by Patil and after he said this we asked him not to campaign in Baramati.

He said, “I said this then and I am saying this even now.” People did not like his (Patil's) statement that he had come to Baramati to defeat (Sharad) Pawar," Ajit Pawar told reporters on Thursday.

His latest statement, which came after his wife lost to Sule, is being seen as an attempt to put the responsibility for the election defeat on the "negative impact" of Patil's comments in the constituency.

Sule, daughter of NCP founder and Ajit Pawar's uncle Sharad Pawar, polled 7,32,312 votes as against Sunetra's 5,73,979 votes, winning by a margin of 1,58,333 votes.
