Voting is going on peacefully in eight Lok Sabha seats of Kolkata, West Bengal and 15.24 percent voting was recorded till 9 am on Monday. An election officer gave this information.

Voting began at 7 am in eight Lok Sabha constituencies - Baharampur Krishnanagar, Ranaghat (SC), Bardhaman East (SC), Bardhaman-Durgapur, Asansol Bolpur (SC) and Birbhum amid tight security arrangements.

Total 1,45,30,017 voters – 73,84,356 males, 71,45,379 females. and 28 third genders – eligible to exercise their franchise at 15,507 polling stations on Monday."Voting was peaceful in the first two hours and no untoward incident took place anywhere in the eight Lok Sabha constituencies. Till 9 am, 15.24 per cent voting was recorded," he said.

Both the Trinamool Congress and the BJP have filed complaints alleging malfunctioning of EVs, agents being prevented from entering polling stations and voters being prevented or intimidated from casting their votes in various constituencies.

Partial sources said that till 9 am, TMC filed about 139 complaints, while BJP filed more than 35 complaints.

“We have received 350 complaints, of which 99 have been disposed of,” the official said.Our officials in the respective constituencies are looking into others. They will be resolved soon."

Congress' Baharampur candidate Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and his TMC rival former cricketer Yusuf Pathan said they were happy with the way voting was being conducted there.

Pathan told reporters, “I am happy with the way the voting is going on since this morning. The voting is peaceful.,

TMC's Krishnanagar candidate Mahua Moitra also said the elections there were peaceful and she was visiting various polling stations to monitor the voting.

The poll panel has identified 3,647 polling stations as critical.

Maximum 659 important polling booths are in Bolpur, while the least 301 such booths are in Bardhaman East seat.

There are 640 important polling stations in Birbhum seat, while there are 558 polling stations in Baharampur, 422 in Burdwan-Durgapur, 410 in Ranaghat, 338 in Krishnanagar and 319 in Asansol.

A maximum of 152 companies of central forces have been deployed in Bardhama Purba, 131 in Birbhum, 88 in Asansol-Durgapur police commissionerate area, 81 in Krishnanagar, 73 in Murshidabad and 54 in Ranaghat.
