Ranchi: Voting in the final phase of elections on three Lok Sabha seats was peaceful on Saturday with nearly 70 per cent of the more than 53 lakh voters exercising their franchise. The officers provided this information.

He said that a professional driver on election duty died after falling from the bridge, while a polling officer fell ill during voting.

Voting began at 7 am in Dumka, Rajmahal and Godda and continued till 5 pm, with 69.96 per cent voting taking place. "Barring a few cases of MCC (model code of conduct) violations, voting took place," Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) K Ravi said. Voting remained peaceful in all three Lok Sabha constituencies.Three cases of MCC violations were reported and FIRs were registered in two cases,” Kumar said.

Jharkhand Police spokesperson and IG Operations Amol V Homkar said that no untoward incident was reported from anywhere.

"Out of 6,258 booths, 130 booths were identified where there were Naxalite issues in the past. Peaceful voting was recorded at these booths," he said. Homkar said around 40,000 additional security forces were deployed in the phase.

He said that the highest turnout was recorded at Dumka seat at 73.50 percent, followed by Rajmahal (68.67 percent) and Godda (68.26 percent).A total of 52 candidates, including eight women, are contesting in this phase, which is the fourth phase in the state. Nineteen candidates each are contesting in Dumka and Godda, while 14 candidates are contesting in Rajmahal. Around 53.23 lakh voters were eligible to cast their votes in the three constituencies, with Godda having the highest number of voters at 20.28 lakh and the least at 20.28 lakh. 15.91 lakh was in Dumka.

Officials said parts of the three constituencies received rainfall, providing considerable respite to voters from the scorching heat.

The driver of a private vehicle that was ferrying polling personnel to the booth in Jamtara died after falling from a bridge, the CEO said. In another incident, a polling worker named Naseem suffered some heart-related problems.He was airlifted and admitted to a hospital in Ranchi, he said.

Of the total 6,258 booths, 5,769 were in rural areas. A total of 241 booths were managed by women, 11 booths were managed by youth and seven booths were managed by disabled people.

All eyes are on Dumka seat where jailed former Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren's sister-in-law and BJP's Sita Soren are contesting against India Bloc's Nalin Soren. Three-time former JMM MLA Sita Soren had defeated her husband Durga Soren in 2009. Following the death, she joined the BJP just before the Lok Sabha elections, citing "neglect" and "isolation" by the JMM.During voting, Sita alleged irregularities in the voting process and demanded re-polling in the constituency.

Over 400 people from a village in Dumka district boycotted the final phase of voting in protest against the construction of a coal dumping yard. Till 3 pm, only four voters exercised their franchise at booth number 94 located in Bagdubhi village. In Godda, BJP's sitting MP Nishikant Dubey is contesting from India Block's Pradeep Yadav.

Rajmahal seat saw an interesting contest as JMM's Borio MLA Lobin Hembrom is contesting as an independent against sitting JMM MP Vijay Hansdak.

BJP has fielded its former state president Tala Marandi from this seat. Dubey cast his vote along with his wife and two sons and claimed that BJP is going to win more than 400 seats in the country.

He also expressed confidence of winning the seat by a record margin.Assembly Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahato also exercised his franchise at a booth in Patanpur in Jamtara district. Voting began on May 13 in four Lok Sabha constituencies of Jharkhand, Singhbhum, Khunti, Lohardaga and Palamu, where 66.01 percent voting was recorded.

The second round of voting for Chatra, Koderma and Hazaribagh Lok Sabha seats in the state on May 20 witnessed 64.39 per cent voting.

The third phase of voting in the state on May 25 saw 67.68 per cent voting in four Lok Sabha seats - Giridih, Dhanbad, Ranchi and Jamshedpur. A total of 244 candidates - 212 men, 31 women and one transgender - are in the fray for the 14 Lok Sabha seats.

Senior leaders of both the NDA and India factions had left no stone unturned in garnering people's support in their favor in all the 14 Lok Sabha seats of Jharkhand.Union ministers like Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president JP Nadda, Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh campaigned for BJP candidates in Jharkhand. On the other hand, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, party leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, Jharkhand's CM Champai Soren and Kalpana Soren, wife of jailed former Chief Minister Hemant Soren, campaigned extensively for the India Bloc candidates.

In the 2019 elections, BJP had won 11 out of 14 Lok Sabha seats, while AJSU Party, Congress and JMM had won one seat each.
