New Delhi [India], Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is considering starting three separate tournaments for each format of the game to reduce the difference in standards between domestic and international cricket.

Pentangular is a five-team tournament in which 150 top players from across the country will participate. According to ESPNcricinfo, the new tournament will be in addition to the existing tournament in this format.

A first-class event in addition to the Quaid-e-Azam and President's Trophies; 50-over event apart from the National One-Day Cup; A T20 tournament as well as the long-running National T20 Cup.

Plans are still in the early stages, but according to ESPNcricinfo, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has instructed several PCB departments to ensure that the tournament launches in the next domestic season. The ESPNcricinfo report also states that the tournament will not be franchised. All the teams will be owned by the board. Along with this, the five teams will not be based on any geographical location. The teams will be newly formed and will have their own management and coaching set-up.

The new tournament is likely to be played on a double-league basis. The selection committee of PCB will be involved in the selection of the team. The selection committee of PCB will distribute a group of players in the team and the rest of the players will be selected by the team management.Pentangular tournaments were previously played in 2016. Apart from bridging the gap in standards between the domestic and international stage, the PCB feels that players will get to play more first-class games.

The schedule of the tournament is still one of the issues that the PCB needs to sort out. Pakistan's domestic season already hosts two first-class tournaments, a One Day Cup, a T20 tournament and the Pakistan Super League.

Along with this, Pakistan's international schedule is also busy.Pakistan will host Bangladesh and England for Tests for an ODI tri-series before the Champions Trophy in 2025.
