UN, Pakistan, Somalia, Denmark, Greece and Panama were on Thursday elected as non-permanent members of the UN Security Council for a two-year term starting in 2025.

The five members were elected by secret ballot in the United Nations General Assembly for a 2-year term starting from January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2026.

In the two seats of African and Asia-Pacific states, Somalia got 179 votes and Pakistan got 182 votes.

Among Latin American and Caribbean states, Panama received 183 votes, while among Western European and other states, Denmark received 184 votes and Greece received 182 votes.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif posted on Instagram, "Proud moment as Pakistan got an amazing 182 votes and was elected to the UN Security Council for the term 2025-26.,

He said Pakistan is keen to work with the international community to address serious global challenges. "We will continue to play our role in promoting peace, stability and cooperation among countries," he said.
