New York: Pakistan defeated Canada by seven wickets in a Group A match to remain in the T20 World Cup here on Tuesday.

Aaron Johnson played a brilliant inning of 52 runs when sent in to bat, but Pakistan took control of the situation and restricted Canada to 106 runs for seven wickets.

Johnson was the only bright spot in Canada's batting department, scoring his runs off 44 balls, while the other batsmen failed to impress.

Mohammad Aamir (2/13) and Haris Rauf (2/26) took two wickets each for Pakistan.

Chasing, Pakistan won in 17.3 overs with the help of Mohammad Rizwan's unbeaten run-a-ball 53 and captain Babar Azam's run-a-ball 33.

Dilon Heiliger (2/18) took both the wickets for Canada.
