Lauderhill (USA), Pakistan captain Babar Azam rued his team's mistakes in their first Group A matches against India and USA as the former champions bid farewell to the T20 World Cup with a three-wicket consolation win over Ireland here. .

Babar was there to see Pakistan reach home against the Irish team, as he scored an unbeaten 32 while chasing the target of 107, but Pakistan almost lost.

“I think in terms of bowling the conditions suited our bowlers. But in batting we made some mistakes in the matches against America and India. When you lose wickets, the pressure is on you,” Babar said at the post-match presentation ceremony."We couldn't finish close games and we weren't good as a team," he admitted.

Pakistan lost their first two Group A matches against India and USA before defeating Canada and Ireland.

However, Babar was happy that his team ended the tournament with a win.

“Yes we performed well. We took early wickets with the ball. But we could not perform well in batting. We lost wickets continuously, but won in the end.

Babar said that Pakistan will have to organize quickly, although he did not give any definite answer about his future as captain.

“Let's see what the team needs, I have no problem with that. We have a good group of players, we have to go home, have a chat and see where we are lacking and then come back,” he said.Fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi, who was later named player of the match, said that he did not play the right brand of cricket in the tournament.

“We have not played the kind of cricket that our country needs, we have to improve in some areas. This (result) is difficult,” Afridi said.

Ireland captain Paul Stirling said that he never got the balance of the team right.

“This is getting that balance right.T20...maybe we didn't get that this time. It's been a tough few weeks. We will go back, regroup and see if we can come back stronger,” he said.
