Attock [Pakistan] Two lawyers were shot dead in Kachari district of Attock on Saturday, allegedly by an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of the elite forces due to personal vendetta, Dawn reported, quoting police.

The deceased were identified as lawyer Israr Ahmed, former president of District Bar Attock, and lawyer Zulfikar Mirza.

According to a statement issued by the Attock police spokesperson, ASI Intizar Shah was upset that he had to divorce his wife in a family court case because of lawyer Ahmed.

"ASI Intizar Shah of Elite Force Attack opened fire on Advocate Malik Israr due to past enmity, resulting in the death of Advocate Malik Israr and his colleague Advocate Zulfikar Shah," the statement claimed.

The response from law enforcement was swift and decisive. Attock District Police Officer Sardar Ghiyas Gul Khan took immediate action, leading to the arrest of ASI Intizar Shah. Besides this, the Incharge of Attock Elite Force and a Mohrar were detained on charges of negligence and carelessness, further investigation is underway.

Separately, police said the suspect was arrested and transferred to Attock City Police Station, and the bodies were taken to the District Headquarters Hospital.

Meanwhile, Punjab Inspector General of Police Usman Anwar has called for strict action against the suspect and said he will "definitely" be punished after all stages of the investigation.

A statement from the Punjab Police spokesperson said that a first information report was also filed.
