Larkana (Sindh) [Pakistan], A policeman shot dead an undertrial in Larkana Central Jail on Eid day, allegedly to avenge the murder of his maternal uncle, Dawn reported.

The incident sparked outrage, leading to a protest by relatives of the victim outside the Larkana Press Club on Wednesday.

According to sources, as cited by Dawn, constable Mohammed Hussain Chandio used his official pistol to kill Ali Raza, who has been on trial since 2021 for the murder of Hussain's uncle Ali Raza alias Lakhmeer Chandio. Was in jail.

The constable was caught by jail officials and later handed over to Waleed police station, where security officer Muzaffar Noonari lodged an FIR against him.

Sources reveal that the constable has confessed to the crime and said that it was an act of revenge for the murder of his uncle.

After the medico-legal procedures were completed, Ali Raza's body was handed over to his family in the presence of a judicial magistrate. The bereaved family buried him and returned to protest outside the Larkana Press Club for the third day.

The victim's mother Irshad Khatoon, Abdul Razzaq Chandio and other relatives accused the jail staff and the accused of complicity in the planned murder of Ali Raza. They demanded registration of FIR against them and appealed for justice to Sindh Chief Minister, IG Jail and concerned authorities.

In response to the incident, Inspector General of Prisons and Correctional Services Qazi Nazir Ahmed took action by suspending 11 junior prison officers for gross negligence in their duties.

The shooting has raised serious questions over security and accountability within the Larkana Central Jail, highlighting wider concerns about security and justice in the region, Dawn reports.
