LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court in Pakistan on Tuesday convicted three suspects allegedly involved in a gun attack on jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan during a protest rally in Punjab province in 2022.

Key accused Naveed Mehar was allegedly involved in the November 2022 firing on the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), while his associates Waqas and Tayyab provided him with arms.

Khan had termed the attack as a "planned assassination attempt" and named then Major-General Faisal Naseer of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) as being behind it. He had also accused Naseer of the murder of Pakistani TV anchor Arshad Sharif in Kenya.

Khan had also named Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and then Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah as co-conspirators in the assassination attempt.
