Officials said the incident has Pakistan links and the Russian service was used to create a sense of panic and fear in the city. The threatening mail was sent from a Russian domain (.ru). More information is awaited.

There is widespread panic among the public due to the threatening email received a day before the Lok Sabha elections on 7th May.

The Crime Branch, Cyber ​​Crime Unit, Special Operations Group and Ahmedabad Police launched an investigation immediately after the threats. Despite the worrying nature of the threats, no suspicious or explosive material was discovered following a thorough inspection by bomb disposal squads and canine units.

Director General of Police Vikas Sahay had said that the threats were a hoax and encouraged voters to vote without any fear.

The incident follows a trend of fake threats received by over 130 schools in the Delhi-NCR region.

Officials said the threat emails prompting them to step up security measures in Delhi-NCR on May 1 came from Russian domains. The email address used, [email protected], indicates its Russian origin. However, the official said that the criminals may have used a secret IP address.
