For Majhi, this award is not only a recognition of his lifelong effort to plant trees and encourage others to do the same, but also an inspiration to carry his mission forward.

It is often said that a small statement of wisdom acts as an eye opener and inspires anyone to take up a noble cause as the mission of life. And the same happened with Majhi also.

“The wise statement of an Englishman that in the future, unless more and more trees are planted, there will be millions of oxygen in the air became an eye-opener for me. Since then, I have made it a mission of my time to plant trees,” said Majhi.

Majhi also said that his mission of planting trees, which he has been carrying out for the last 12 years, was not driven by the greed for recognition.

“To be honest, I never expected the Padma Shri award. But at the same time, this award is an inspiration to pursue my mission with more enthusiasm,” he said.
