JAMMU: Over 26,000 displaced Kashmiri Pandit voters from across the country are eligible to vote at 34 polling stations in the sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag constituency on Saturday.

This marks the conclusion of voting in the Union Territory, with voting in the other four constituencies already completed.

The newly created Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha seat, covering the South Kashmir-Pir Panjal region, will cover the districts of Anantnag, Kulgam Shopian, Rajouri and Poonch.

Polling teams and security forces are being sent to special polling stations set up for Kashmiri Pandits in Jammu and Udhampur districts.

Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner Dr. Arvind Karwani said, “More than 26,000 Kashmiri migrant voters will cast their votes tomorrow at special polling stations set up in Jammu, Udhampur and Delhi.All arrangements have been made for free and fair voting tomorrow."

Dr. Karwani along with election officials reviewed the arrangements at 21 polling stations and 8 auxiliary booths in Jammu, one in Udhampur and four booths in Delhi.

Assistant Election Returning Officer (AERO) Dr Riaz Ahmed urged Kashmiri overseas voters to participate in the elections.

"All essential facilities including water and shelter have been arranged. The Election Commission has also provided pick-and-drop facility for voters from 6 am to 6 pm, focusing on areas with high concentration of migrants. Is." Said.

Amidst tight security, officials handed over voting material including EVMs to the polling parties at the Women's College in Jammu. The official said security forces and election teams are being deployed at their respective stations.

Anantnag constituency is gearing up for a competitive electoral contest with around 18.36 lakh voters, including 9.02 lakh women, set to vote across 2,33 polling stations.

Twenty candidates are in the fray for the seat, with the main contest between PD chief and former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti and prominent Gujjar leader and former National Conference (NC) minister Mian Altaf Ahmed.In the Pir Panjal region, BJP-backed Apni Party's Zafar Iqbal Manhas is expected to challenge both the PDP and the NC.

The Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) led by former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has fielded Mohammad Salim Pare for this seat.
