Mumbai: MLAs from opposition parties walked out of the Maharashtra Legislative Council on Monday after BJP MLC moved a resolution congratulating BCCI Treasurer and BJP MLA Ashish Shelar on the Indian cricket team's victory in the T20 World Cup.

Opposition leaders walked out claiming that Legislative Council Deputy Chairperson Neelam Gore had ignored their concerns.

BJP MLA Prasad Lad said, "The Indian cricket team has won the T20 World Cup after 13 years. MLA Shelar is the treasurer of BCCI, so I move a motion to congratulate him."

The proposal was strongly objected to by Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders Ambadas Danve and Sachin Ahir, Congress's Abhijeet Vanjari, Bhai Jagtap and Satej Patil and NCP (SP) leader Shashikant Shinde.

However, when Deputy Speaker Gore did not allow any discussion, Lad expressed disappointment, saying, "This House has passed a congratulatory resolution for Sharad Pawar. Why not for Shelar?"

Ambadas Danve, leader of opposition in the council, said, "Why is our voice suppressed? When issues are discussed in the House, the Deputy Speaker allows the BJP leader to participate, but why is anyone from the opposition allowed to speak?" Is it not given? We are here. For discussion."

Danve later announced a walkout in protest.

Opposition leaders gathered near the Deputy Chairman and accused him of bias. But the situation escalated and they raised slogans condemning the actions of the whites.

Gore withheld his decision and suggested that the issue be decided during a meeting of party leaders. However, opposition parties rejected his proposal.

Maharashtra minister and BJP leader Chandrakant Patil said, "Laad's resolution was a simple gesture of congratulation. I don't see anything objectionable here."
