New Delhi, The Opposition caused repeated disruption in Parliament on Friday over the NEET paper leak issue, and both Houses were adjourned for the day without taking up many matters apart from the Rajya Sabha accepting the Motion of Thanks for the speech of the President amid protests, including those from the BJD, which almost always supported the BJP in the previous Lok Sabha.

At one point, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also entered the well of the House to join the opposition protest.

The Lok Sabha was first adjourned minutes after meeting at 11 am, and then when it reconvened around 12 noon, it was adjourned until Monday amid the opposition's demand for a discussion on the issue.Rajya Sabha also witnessed a series of disruptions before the session was adjourned around 6 pm. But even during the time when the House was functioning, much of the time was occupied by the opposition parties registering their protest by raising slogans and entering the Well of the House.

Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar expressed anguish over Kharge's entry into the well and said it is for the first time that a person holding the position has engaged in such conduct.

The opposition was also relentless in its protest in the Lok Sabha, leading to its first uprising of the day minutes after the members met. When the House met again at 12 noon, the opposition members continued with their demand for a discussion on matters related to the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET).

Speaker Om Birla and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju told opposition members that they can discuss the matter during the debate on the Motion of Thanks to the President's Address.

Birla said that there are certain rules of Parliament that have to be followed and committees have to be formed, to which Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi said that students do not know about it. They are only demanding justice. As Congress, TMC and DMK members stormed the Well, Rijiju said this is the first time the opposition is seen demanding a discussion on an issue before the House adopts the Motion of Thanks.

"There is a difference between protests on the road and protests inside the House... You (the opposition) don't want the House to run? Don't you want to talk about NEETs during the discussion of the Motion of Thanks?" Birla said.

As the House continued to see uproar, Birla adjourned the proceedings till Monday. Amid the din, TMC member S K Nurul Islam took oath as a member of the Lok Sabha from his seat because he was visibly ill.

Earlier, when the House met in the morning, opposition members stood up asking for the acceptance of an adjournment motion to adjourn all business and discuss NEET-related matters.

However, Birla said he would first address the obituaries of 13 former members, including former Lok Sabha Speaker and former Maharashtra Chief Minister Manohar Joshi. When the obituaries were over, the opposition members again stood up. .

Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said the NEET issue is very important for the entire country and they want a dedicated discussion in the House on the issue. He therefore said that the motion for adjournment should be accepted.

However, Birla said he could not allow it as the House was about to begin debate on the Motion of Thanks for the President's speech in the joint session of Parliament on Thursday. Back in Rajya Sabha, BJD members joined to other opposition parties in their protests.

In the previous Lok Sabha, the BJD was seen siding with the BJP. But after losing to the BJP in the recently held assembly elections in Odisha and failing to open its account in the Lok Sabha, the BJD has joined other opposition parties in attacking the BJP.

Soon after placing the listed documents on the table of the House during the morning session, Dhankhar informed that he had not accepted 22 notices from the opposition leaders to suspend the activities scheduled for the day and start discussing the alleged irregularities in the ninis. This sparked protests from opposition parliamentarians. They began to raise slogans and several of them entered the Well.

As Kharge joined his colleagues at the Well, Dhankhar said: "I am pained and shocked that Indian parliamentary tradition has fallen to such an extent that the leader of the opposition troops into the Well," he said, before adjourning proceedings. until 2 p.m. .

The House later resumed discussions on the Motion of Thanks before adjourning around 6 pm. Earlier, when the Rajya Sabha reconvened at 2:30 pm, DMK member Tiruchi Siva informed the House that Congress MP Phulo Devi Netam, who had fainted earlier, had high blood pressure.

Responding, Speaker Jagdeep Dhankhar said, "I have taken all measures, I have suspended the work of the House. All arrangements have been made and that was the maximum that could be done. Everything is being taken care of."

However, the opposition was apparently not satisfied and began raising slogans. Soon after, they went on strike and were also joined by members of the Biju Janta Dal (BJD).
