Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) [India], Reacting to the United Democratic Front's allegation that Kerala Students' Union (KSU) workers were attacked by the Students' Federation of India (SFI), the Excise Minister of Kerala MB Rajesh said the opposition is playing politics over the incident.

M B Rajesh said, "Our position is that the campus should be free of violence. We do not promote or condone any act of violence by any student organization on the campuses. Universities and colleges in Kerala are now focusing on improving the quality of education. "There is a 63 per cent increase in the number of foreign students applying for degree courses at the University of Kerala. There should be no case that diverts our attention. "The opposition is playing politics over the incident."

He further alleged that the opposition UDF justifies all acts of violence, while this was not the case with the ruling LDF.

He further said, "We all know that the KSU, the student wing of the Congress, had earlier attacked the chancellor of the Mahatma Gandhi University. The student wing of the Muslim League had killed a school teacher. The student wing of the Congress had attacked a "IAS officer. They are justifying all acts of violence."

Earlier, the Kerala Assembly witnessed scandalous scenes with a fierce verbal duel between Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and opposition leader VD Satheesan.

The topic of the bitter debate touched on the recent riots in the state capital, Thiruvananthapuram, between members of the students' union of the Communist Party of India (CPI-M) and the Congress parties, the Students Federation of India (SFI). and the Students of Kerala. Union (KSU), respectively.

The Kerala Students Union has alleged that SFI members attacked KSU district leader St Joseph inside the Kerala University campus in Karyavattom on Tuesday night.

The issue was raised as an adjournment motion tabled by several Congress members, including Mr. Vincent. The Chief Minister rejected the opposition's motion to adjourn the session.

Vijayan said conflicts on campus are undesirable and should be condemned. He further said that action should be taken against those responsible.
