Several vehicles including a cab were damaged in the incident which was reported to Delhi Fire Service (DFS) at around 5 am. Canopy sheets and support beams collapsed, causing damage to cars parked in the pick-up and drop area of ​​the terminal.

During the rescue operation, a driver was taken out of the cab on which an iron beam had fallen.

NDRF officials reached the spot and are engaged in rescue work.

A Delhi airport spokesperson said all departures from Terminal 1 have been temporarily suspended and check-in counters have been closed as a "security measure". Only domestic flights operate at Terminal 1.

The spokesperson also said that all IndiGo and SpiceJet flights departing from T1 have been canceled till 2 pm. A Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) spokesperson said, "Due to heavy rain since this morning, a portion of the canopy at the old departure concourse got damaged."
