Shillong, A man has been arrested for his involvement in the suspicious murder of four people in Meghalaya's East Jaintia Hills district last week. Police gave this information on Thursday.

Four bodies with their hands and feet tied and cut marks on their necks were found in a forest on the outskirts of Umpleng village in the district on July 6.

"In connection with the recovery of bodies of four people, who are suspected to have been murdered, a case was registered and one person was arrested during the investigation," East Jaintia Hills SP Giri Prasad said.

Without disclosing details of the arrested person, the SP said efforts are on to nab his associates in the crime.

Police have identified Nasar Kindait (33) of Dakhiya East Pohshanong village in the district and Ravi Rai (23) and Rajesh Rai (26) from Nepal as among the four deceased.

Police said that another deceased has not been identified yet.

Three bodies have been handed over to their family members, an official said.
