Muscat, Oman, participating in the T20 World Cup for the third time, on Wednesday appointed Aaqib Ilyas as their captain for the upcoming edition of the tournament, which will be held in the USA and West Indies in June.

After his appointment as team captain he said, "It is a big responsibility and my aim is to bring many wins to the team."

“We have been preparing hard for the World Cup, and the recent ACC Premier CU has provided us with invaluable preparation.”

Former captain Zeeshan Maqsood, who has been leading the side since the 2016 edition, is also part of the 15-member squad.

The batsmen are Ilyas and Maqsood, Kashyap Prajapati, Naseem Khushi, Prati Athawale and Ayan Khan.Bilal Khan will lead the bowling attack and will be supported by fast bowlers Kaleemullah and Faiyaz Butt, while Shakeel Ahmed, Ilyas and Zeeshan will handle the spin department.

Oman will play its first match of the tournament against Namibia in Barbados on June 2 and have been drawn in Group B along with defending champions England, Australia and Scotland.

Rohit Paudel will lead Nepal

Nepal, playing for only the second time in the tournament, also named their team, which will be led by all-rounder Rohit Paudel.

Most of the players were selected based on their performances in the AC Premier Cup and the ongoing home series against West Indies A.

Apart from Paudel, players to watch out for include Deepender Singh Airey, who recently created history by becoming the third T20 international batsman to hit six sixes in an over, along with Kushal Bhurtel and Asif Shaikh.Lalit Rajbanshi will be a threat with his spin bowling.

Nepal will begin its campaign against the Netherlands in Dallas in June. They have been placed in Group D along with South Africa, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Netherlands.
