Kolkata: After questioning the logic behind shifting established leaders like him from winnable constituencies to challenging electoral battlegrounds, senior BJP leader Dilip Ghosh on Saturday put out a social media post, prompting the party's West Bengal unit to ' Speculations about the 'old versus new' debate intensified.

In a cryptic message, Ghosh posted on X, "Old is gold."

Ghosh had earlier said that it was the party's mistake to sideline old leaders and that defeat in the elections was imminent as new and inexperienced leaders were moving forward.

The BJP's Lok Sabha strength in the state dropped to 12 in this election from 18 in 2019, when Ghosh was the BJP state president. This time the saffron party had set a target of winning 30 out of 42 seats.

Ghosh lost the Bardhaman-Durgapur seat to TMC's Kirti Azad by about 1.38 lakh votes.

Ghosh had earlier said that it was now established that sending him to contest fresh elections from his old constituency of Medinipur "was a mistake".

He was shifted from his winning seat of Medinipur to Bardhaman-Durgapur, a seat where the fight against TMC was tough.

Ghosh replaces sitting MP SS Ahluwalia from Bardhaman-Durgapur. In return, Ahluwalia was taken to Asansol. Agnimitra Paul, the party's sitting MLA from Asansol South seat, replaced Ghosh in Medinipur.

All three BJP candidates were defeated by their TMC counterparts in the recently concluded elections.

On Friday, Ghosh questioned the choices made by the state BJP leadership, especially in shifting experienced leaders like him and former Union minister of state Debasree Chaudhary to people unfamiliar with their constituencies.
