Gadchiroli: Election officials in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district traveled 107 km through winding and dangerous roads and forests to enable two elderly people to vote from their homes for the Lok Sabha elections, officials said on Friday.

The voters aged between 100 and 86 are from the Gadchiroli-Chimur constituency, which will go to polls in the first phase on April 19.

According to the District Information Office in Gadchiroli, the Election Commission has given people above 85 years of age and persons with more than 40 per cent disability the option to vote from home in the upcoming general elections.

Under the initiative, election officials traveled 107 kilometers from Aheri T Sironcha to reach the homes of 100-year-old Kishtayya Madarboina and 86-year-old Kishtayya Komera, who have mobility issues but were unable to cast their ballots, the official said. Were willing to exercise their rights.

He said election officials have approved the applications of 1,037 voters above 85 years of age and 338 "disabled" people to vote from home in Gadchiroli-Chimur constituency.

So far 1,205 domestic voters have voted.
