The process of formation of the new government in Odisha began with the presentation of the gazette notification declaring the election results to Governor Raghubar Das at the Raj Bhavan here on Thursday, an official said.

Odisha Chief Electoral Officer Nikunj Bihari Dhall presented the gazette notification to the Governor. He said, the notification is regarding the election of new members of the next Assembly and it will pave the way for the formation of the House.

The Governor's Secretariat has informed this to the State Parliamentary Department.

The CEO was also accompanied by representatives of the Election Commission of India (ECI) and other senior officials.

The ECI notification and Odisha Gazette notification regarding the newly elected MLAs were submitted to the Governor, the official said.

The Governor congratulated the ECI, the CEO and the entire election machinery of the State for conducting free, fair and peaceful elections.

The development came after BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik resigned as Odisha Chief Minister, ending his 24-year rule.

BJP crossed the majority mark by winning 78 seats in the 147-member assembly, while BJD got 51 seats and Congress 14 seats. One CPI(M) candidate and three independent candidates also emerged victorious.
