Berhampur (Odisha), Theme-based polling stations set up in train coaches and bus ticket counters welcomed voters in Odisha's Berhampur Lok Sabha constituency, where voting was held on Monday, officials said.

He said that out of 1,131 polling stations in five assembly constituencies of Berhampur Lok Sabha constituency, 272 were prepared on various subjects.

“These polling stations were themed to attract voters to exercise their franchise,” said Ganjam district election officer cum collector Dibya Jyoti Parida.

The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Odisha appreciated the administration for this initiative.

"The booths were decorated with different themes to attract voters, providing a unique experience," the CEO said on his officialFrom the train bogies to the eco-friendly setup and vibrant rainbow decorations, every booth tells a story. Let's celebrate diversity in democracy."

Officials said "green" or eco-friendly polling stations were set up without the use of any plastic materials, while "waste-to-wealth" model polling stations were set up using scrap materials.

Apart from attracting voters, the theme-based polling stations were also aimed at creating awareness on various topics like reducing the use of plastic and planting more trees to protect the environment.

There were also polling stations that were managed entirely by women, and they were managed by young personnel under the age of 30.Besides, some polling booths in Digapahandi, one of the assembly constituencies under Berhampur Lok Sabha constituency, were set up on the basis of train coaches and BU ticket counters, he said.

Environmental activist Sudhir Raut said he was impressed by the concept of eco-friendly polling stations.

“More such initiatives should be taken to spread awareness on the impact of climate change,” he said."
