Bhubaneswar, Odisha Science and Technology Minister Krushna Chandra Patra on Saturday congratulated the winners of Tata Steel's Young Astronomer Talent Search (YATS) 2023 heading to the Organization's Space Applications Center (SAC) Indian Space Research Institute (ISRO) in Ahmedabad. .

Twenty students from over 300 schools in 30 districts of Odisha were selected to visit SAC and Science City in Ahmedabad.

Speaking at a program organized by Tata Steel in collaboration with Pathani Samanta Planetarium, Bhubaneswar, Patra said, "India is excelling in space science and research globally. I am sure these children will contribute significantly to this field. Congratulations to all the winners and Best wishes for your visit to ISRO where you will gain valuable knowledge.”

Chithra Arumugam, principal secretary, department of Science and Technology, also congratulated the students selected from 80,000 participants to explore ISRO's space applications center in Ahmedabad.

"YATS has been a pioneering initiative that encourages students to expand their scientific curiosity beyond conventional academic boundaries. We are delighted to provide these young achievers the opportunity to explore ISRO facilities and fuel their astronomical dreams," Debashis said Jena, Chief Resident Executive (CRE), Tata Steel, Bhubaneswar.

Selected students will tour SAC's laboratories, interact with their director, and network with leading space scientists. They will also visit the City of Sciences to delve deeper into astronomy and space sciences.

Over its 17-year history, YATS has inspired over 350,000 young science enthusiasts in the state, and 200 students, including this year's batch, were privileged to visit various ISRO facilities.
