Balasore (Odisha) [India]: Curfew was imposed and internet shut down in Balasore district following a clash between two groups on Monday, with state Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh urging the people of the district to maintain it. This will help in restoring communal harmony and peace in the area.

Speaking to ANI, Deputy CM Kanak Vardhan Singh said, "I want to appeal to the people of Balasore to maintain peace and communal harmony among themselves."

He further said that the government is monitoring the situation and all measures have been taken.

“The government also wants everything to be resolved amicably. The government has taken all measures and the process is being monitored by the Director General of Police (DGP) and the Chief Secretary.They are giving information about the situation to the Chief Minister from time to time."

Meanwhile, MP from Balasore seat Pratap Sarangi has said, "The incident that happened is serious. We will not let anyone disturb the peace of Balasore. I have spoken to the district administration and the Chief Minister.'' The Chief Secretary of the Home Department is in constant touch with the SP and Collector of the district. The CM has assured us of a thorough investigation by the police department and strict action will be taken against those making the allegations.

“But in the meantime, we must work towards maintaining peace so that the police can do their job.I urge the residents of Balasore to be patient as all the accused will be punished and peace will be restored in the area," he claimed.

He further said, "The priority of the Bharatiya Janata Party government is to establish a government where there is justice without any appeasement politics because we do not believe in it."

Earlier, curfew was imposed in Balasore district of Odisha till further orders after a clash between two groups on Tuesday morning.

Initially the administration had imposed Section 144 but later the decision was changed and curfew was imposed.

SP Balasore Sagarika Nath said, "Curfew has been imposed in Balasore city. The situation is under control. 34 people have been detained and more than 7 FIRs have been registered."Internet has been shut down for the next 48 hours."

At present the situation is under control. The police team has detained 34 people and the process of arresting them will continue after further investigation.

Besides, more than seven FIRs have also been registered in this regard.
