The culprit was identified as Jyotirmoy Samal, an auto rickshaw driver in Bhubaneswar.

Special public prosecutor Rajeev Sasmal said, "On September 1, 2021, the convict tried to rape his daughter, who works as a sanitation worker in the city along with her mother... She was sleeping in a separate room. Was staying."

Sasmal told that the convict's wife, who was sleeping nearby, also suddenly woke up. When the mother and daughter opposed his efforts, an angry Samal attacked them brutally.

The victim's mother filed a complaint against Jyotirmoy the next day. Based on the complaint, the police registered a case and arrested him on 4 September 2021.

Meanwhile, during the investigation, the investigating officer came to know that Jyotirmoy's daughter is pregnant. She delivered a baby boy at a hospital here on December 13, 2022.

The DNA profiling reports of Jyotirmoy Samal, his daughter and child also clearly indicated that the convict was the biological father of the rape victim's newborn baby.

On the basis of DNA report, statements of witnesses and other evidence, the court convicted Samal of a heinous crime and pronounced the verdict.

The court has also directed the Khordha District Legal Services Authority to ensure payment of compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the victim.
