Bhubaneswar, Congress has given a three-day ultimatum to Odisha police to arrest people involved in the alleged attack on its workers outside the party's state headquarters here on Tuesday night.

Notably, supporters of both the BJP and Congress clashed here on Tuesday night during a protest over comments made by opposition leader Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha.

Speaking to the media here on Wednesday, Congress member Taraprasad Bahinipati said the police should arrest the people involved in the Congress Bhawan attack within three days.

Otherwise, 20,000 youth will force their way into the BJP state office here, he warned.

On the instructions of the state BJP president and chief minister, his party youth pelted stones at the Congress headquarters. Several congressional workers and journalists were injured during the attack, he alleged.

After coming to power, the BJP government is trying to murder democracy like the BJD, Bahinipati said.

Bahinipati also said that protests will be organized outside all offices of Superintendents of Police (SP) across the state if the persons concerned are not arrested within 72 hours.

On Tuesday, the incident occurred outside the state Congress headquarters (Congress Bhawan), where the BJP was holding a rally over Rahul Gandhi's comments.

Besides stones, supporters of both sides also threw cow dung at each other.

Cow dung was thrown against a fence with Rahul Gandhi's photograph. It was later washed with milk by Congress workers.

In his first speech as leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha on Monday, Gandhi launched an all-out attack on the BJP, accusing the ruling party leaders of dividing the people on communal lines. His comments sparked massive protests from treasury benches, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticizing the Congress leader for calling the entire Hindu community violent. Gandhi, however, clarified that he was referring to the BJP.
