Bhubaneswar, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Sunday said that the 'Subhadra Yojana', a financial assistance scheme promised by the BJP in its election manifesto, will be implemented on September 17, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday.

He also said that the Ratna Bhandar (treasury) of Lord Jagannath temple in Puri will soon be opened and an inventory of the valuables stored inside will be made.

Majhi was addressing a felicitation program organized by Odisha BJP here to congratulate the party's newly elected MLAs and MLAs in the state.

"Subhadra Yojana will be launched on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday, September 17," the Prime Minister said.

Under the scheme named after Lord Jagannath's sister, cash vouchers worth Rs 50,000 will be provided to women in the state.

“Ratna Bhandar will soon be opened and an inventory of the valuables of the Lords will be taken. If any irregularity is found, stern action will be taken against the culprits,” Majhi said.

The reopening of the Ratna Bhandar, located in the basement of a 12th century shrine in Puri, was a major political issue in the state during the assembly and Lok Sabha elections. The previous BJD government had promised that the treasury would be reopened for inventory and repair work during this year's Rath Jatra next month.

The last inventory of the treasure was made in 1978.

In August last year, the then opposition Congress BJO alleged that there is a “glaring mismatch” between the figures of the number of gold and silver ornaments stored in Ratna Bhandar mentioned by the BJD government in the state assembly and by Shree Jagannath . Temple administration in an affidavit before the Orissa High Court.

Ratna Bhandar's inventory audit also figured in the BJP manifesto.

The prime minister said that for proper management of the Puri Jagannath temple, his government has decided to create a corpus fund of Rs 500 crore.

He said that all the promises made by the BJP in his manifesto will be covered in the 100-day action plan of the BJP government.

Majhi said his government also announced that he will procure paddy from Odisha farmers at an MSP of Rs 3,100 per quintal in this Kharif season.

Odisha BJP president Manmohan Samal indicated that the saffron party government in the state would announce more welfare when it completes 100 days.

Four major decisions on the Jagannath temple and farmers' issues taken by the BJP government in its first cabinet are “just progress,” Samal said.

“Wait till the 100th day to see the picture,” he said thanking the people of Odisha for bringing the BJP to power.

"We will have to work hard in the next five years," Samal said.
