Bhubaneswar, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday directed officials of the Planning and Convergence (P&C) department to set up a task force for the creation of development councils for the southern and northern regions of the state.

Majhi gave this instruction during a meeting with Development Commissioner Anu Garg and other senior officials of the department.

The CM stressed the need for the P&C department to draft a comprehensive proposal for the creation of North and South Odisha Development Councils, in line with the commitments outlined in the BJP's election manifesto.

Currently, the Western Odisha Development Council operates in the state, covering ten districts and one sub-division since its establishment in 1999. The budget of the council has increased significantly, from Rs 3 crore to Rs 200 crore during the 2020-21 financial year. Previous Naveen Patnaik government.

As the minister overseeing P&C, Majhi also directed the department to set up trauma care centers funded through the District Mineral Fund (DMF) in districts affected by mining activities.

He particularly emphasized on setting up such centers within medical colleges located in mineral rich districts.

The CM urged the officials to give priority to effective implementation of schemes at the grassroots level while ensuring maximum benefits to the people. He directed them to take proactive steps to fulfill all the important promises made in the election manifesto.
