Bhubaneswar, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Sunday paid tribute to Bharatiya Jan Sangh founder Syama Prasad Mukherjee on his death anniversary.

Majhi, along with Odisha Assembly Speaker Surma Padhi and Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan, paid floral tributes at Mukherjee's statue at the park named after him in Bhubaneswar's Satsang Vihar area.

The state government is celebrating his death anniversary as 'Sacrifice Day'.

In an ex-post, Majhi described Mukherjee as a symbol of national unity and integrity and paid tribute to him.

Mukherjee, who was a politician, barrister and educationist, served as Minister of Industries and Supplies in the cabinet of Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

He founded the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, the predecessor of the BJP, in 1951.
