Kohima, Naga Students Federation (NSF) has urged the state government to bring Dimapur district under the Inner Line Permit (ILP) regime and take steps to eliminate backdoor appointments in government jobs.

The NSF made this appeal through a memorandum to Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio during his meeting at his office here on Tuesday.

During the meeting, NSF underlined the importance of ILP in managing illegal immigration and safeguarding Naga identity, culture and demography.

NSF regretted that over the past several decades, successive governments have struggled to execute the ILP diligently.

It said that the exclusion of (erstwhile) Dimapur district from the ILP regime, as indicated by the suspension order dated June 2, 2023, has become a dangerous haven for illegal immigrants.

NSF urged immediate withdrawal of ILP suspension order for Dimapur and proposed setting up of monitoring cells at major entry points to enforce the rules in all district headquarters.

On the issue of government job appointments, NSF accepted the establishment of Nagaland Staff Selection Board (NSSB) for merit based recruitment in Grade-III posts.

However, he expressed concern over alleged backdoor appointments in various departments.

"Through the RTI campaign the federation has highlighted several anomalies which suggest continuation of this practice, which undermines the integrity of our administrative system," it said.

NSF urged the CM to take decisive action to end these backdoor appointments.
