The actress, who hails from Assam, recently talked about her connection with Bihar and how she connected with the concept of the show.

Chhathi Maiya is a revered goddess for the people of Bihar and Purvanchal.

Devoleena said she grew up in ONGC Colony in Assam, where people from every state live, which introduced her to Bihar and its culture.

The actress said, “My neighbor was from Bihar, from whom I came to know about the importance of orange vermillion and thekua. I not only know about Thekua, but also like to taste it. Apart from this, I also have neighbors from Bihar at my house in Assam, so I am familiar with their dishes and I have also learned how to make Litti Chokha from them.

'Chhathi Maiyya Ki Bitiya' is based on an orphan Vaishnavi (played by Brinda Dahal), who treats Chhathi Maiyya (played by Devoleena Bhattacharjee) as her mother. Chhathi Maiya protects and guides her devotees throughout their life. The show also stars Sara Khan, Jaya Bhattacharya, Vrinda Dahal and Ashish Dixit.

Devoleena further said, 'Because of the Bihari people living around me, I also know about Chhath Puja and its customs. Worship the sugarcane plant in the morning. My neighbor aunty used to wake up before sunrise to keep the fast and break the fast the next evening. They used to make delicious thekua during this festival and we all used to taste it.”

'Chhathi Maiya Ki Bitiya' airs on Sun Neo.
