Raipur (Chhattisgarh) [India]: After former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel alleged that the numbers of several electronic voting machines in his constituency Rajnandgaon were changed, the state's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) clarified in a series of posts. CEO Chhattisgarh said in a statement, "The alleged mismatch in EVM numbers shared with the Congress candidate from Rajnandgaon parliamentary constituency is not based on facts. The CEO said that the list of machines replaced due to some mechanical/technical glitches during voting and mock poll has also been shared with the candidates.Besides, polling agents have signed the paper seal used to seal the EVMs before the start of polling, he said.

"During the scrutiny in the presence of independent observers on the day after poll, no such issue was raised by any of the contesting candidates. All paper seals can be verified with the numbers mentioned in Form 17(C) at the time of actual counting. ,” the CEO said in another post.

It added, “The specific numbers of ballot papers, control units and VVPATs can also be verified from the lists shared with the candidates before and after polling.Therefore, the allegation of alleged changes in EVMs after voting is baseless."

Bhupesh Baghel said that after voting in his constituency Rajnandgaon, the numbers of many machines have changed as per the information given in Form 17 C.

"The Election Commission had given the numbers of the machines used in the elections. This includes ballot units, control units and VVPATs. After voting in my constituency Rajnandgaon, the numbers of many machines have changed as per the information given in Form 17C."The booths where numbers have been changed affect thousands of votes," Baghel said in a post on 'X'.

Seeking answers from the Election Commission, Baghel claimed that he had received similar complaints from other Lok Sabha constituencies also.

"We are complaining to the state election officer. @ECISVEEP should answer under what circumstances the machines were changed and who will be responsible for any impact on the election result. The list of numbers changed is very long but a short one for you The list is attached,” Baghel said.
