Stavanger (Norway), Indian Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa lost to world champion Ding Liren in an Armageddon tie-breaker after playing out a draw under normal time control in the second round of the Norway chess tournament here.

In the second round of the prestigious event, once again all three classical sports ended in a draw.

Magnus Carlsen, Alireza Firoza and Liren won subsequent Armageddon games with white and gained 1.5 points each.

India's prodigy Praggnanandhaa, who led 2-0 against Liren, played his first classical draw in the main event.

But the Chinese GMs then emerged victorious in the Armageddon tie-breaker

In the most anticipated pairing of the day, Carlsen and Hikaru Nakamura played a closely contested classical game that ended in a draw.

Carlsen demonstrated his exceptional skills under pressure, managing to pick up important wins, adding to his impressive Armageddon record and taking a 3-point lead in the tournament standings.

Meanwhile, Firouzja and Fabiano Caruana also had their classical game drawn after a complex clash.

Turquoise's abilities at speed chess shined in the Armageddon game and she scored a vital 1.5 points.

In the women's category, R Vaishali registered her first classical win of the tournament by defeating fellow Indian Koneru Humpy.

Despite Humpy's slight lead early on, a serious mistake under time pressure allowed Vaishali to claim victory, her first win against India's number one female player.

With this win, Vaishali became India's number two female player in the live ratings list.

The other two classic matches between Lei Tingjie and Pia Kramling as well as Xu Wenjun and Anna Muzychuk ended in hard-fought draws.

The Chinese pair of Wenjun and Tingjie emerged victorious in their respective Armageddon games.
