The meeting with Noida Village Residents Association (NOVRA) was held at Rohillapur village, Sector 132, in which senior police officials including Deputy Commissioner of Police (Noida-1) Praveen Kumar held talks with residents of Shahpur, Garhi, Gejha and Chalera. and the villages of Atta.

Three new criminal laws came into force in the country on July 1, bringing far-reaching changes to India's criminal justice system. The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) replaced the British-era Penal Code, Criminal Procedure Code and Indian Evidence Act respectively.

"The objective of the meeting with village residents was to inform the community about the new laws and address their concerns," Noida police said in a statement after the dialogue, which was part of its ongoing campaign to create awareness about the new laws. .

"ACP Singh, explaining the nature of the new laws, emphasized that they are designed to deliver justice rather than serve as punitive measures of the colonial era. These laws are made keeping in mind the current circumstances and we will continue to discuss them with the public." he said in a statement.

NOVRA President Ranjan Tomar highlighted the challenges faced by rural communities, particularly the need for effective community policing in the absence of the village panchayat system.

He highlighted the importance of establishing a process to improve cooperation between the police and the public.

"A system must be established to determine who in the community can help improve the administration of the district," Tomar said.

During the meeting, NOVRA also addressed issues of discrimination faced by rural residents by the Noida Authority, disputes between tenants and landlords and the need for a post-Covid community policing policy.
