Noida, With the arrest of six people, Noida Police on Monday claimed to have busted a gang that cheats students seeking admission into prestigious colleges and universities.

The gang, which has offices in Noida and Pune, is believed to have duped "hundreds of students" of "crores of rupees", a police officer said.

Additional DCP (Noida) Manish Kumar Mishra said, "We have seized 61 post-dated checks totaling Rs 5.06 crore, besides other items, from the gang's possession."

"Sector 113 police station officials arrested a total of six people, including two women, on Sunday night," Mishra told reporters.

Police said those arrested were identified as Rahul Kumar (30), Anupam Kumar (28), Dayanand Pandey (25), Sachin Singh (25), Vidushi Lohia (37) and Nikita Upadhyay (24). Is.

He said that the seventh member of the gang, identified as Sonu Kumar alias Ranveer Singh, is absconding.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Noida-3) Shaivya Goyal said the gang used social media platforms to target gullible candidates.

“Except top institutes like IIT or IIM, the gang members used to assure admission to various courses to students in almost all colleges and universities,” Goyal told reporters.

An FIR has been registered under sections 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust), 467, 468, 471 (all three related to forgery), 34 (act done by several persons with common intention) of the Indian Penal Code. Police said.

He said that the accused have also been booked under the provisions of the Information Technology Act and they are being produced in the local court for further legal proceedings.
