Noida, Gautam Buddha Nagar police have booked 497 people for nuisance as part of their crackdown against drinking alcohol in public. Officials gave this information on Saturday.

The action was taken in all three police zones of Noida, Central Noida and Greater Noida on Friday during a one-day operation named "Operation Street Safe" to ensure public safety and reduce anti-social behaviour, an official statement said.

A police spokesperson said, "The aim of this operation was to crack down on persons consuming alcohol in public places at night."

In Noida zone, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Vidya Sagar Mishra led the operation covering 40 different locations in nine police station areas.

"A total of 1,924 persons were screened during this operation, resulting in action being taken against 208 persons under section 290 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC)," the officer said.

Section 290 of the IPC deals with creating public nuisance, which includes acts that seriously disturb public peace and order.

DCP Suniti monitored the operation covering 31 locations in eight police station areas in Central Noida. According to him, around 1,605 persons were investigated, out of which 146 people were booked under section 290 of the IPC.

In Greater Noida, the operation was conducted at 38 locations in nine police station areas by DCP Saad Miya Khan.

"A total of 1,925 persons were investigated, leading to action being taken against 143 people under section 290 of the IPC," the spokesperson said.

According to the police, a total of 5,454 persons were checked as a result of the alliance of police forces in Gautam Buddh Nagar.
