LOS ANGELES - "Doctor Who" star Ncuti Gatwa is set to join the cast of a revival of Oscar Wilde's classic play "The Importance of Being Earnest" at London's National Theatre.

According to Variety, Max Webster — known for stage productions of "Macbeth" and "Life of Pi" — will direct the new version of the 1895 comedy. I'm Webster's National Theater debut.

The story of "The Importance of Being Earnest" revolves around Jack Worthin, who begins living in the city under a false identity, taking on the role of dutiful guardian in the country.

"Meanwhile, his friend Algernon Moncrieff adopts a similar mask. Unfortunately, leading a double life has its drawbacks, especially when it comes to love. In hopes of impressing two worthy ladies, gentlemen lie to themselves. They find themselves trapped in a trap that they must navigate carefully," according to the official synopsis.

While Gatava will play Algernon Moncrieff, Hugh Skinner ("Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again") will star as Jack Worthing.

Also in the cast are Richard Kent as Reverend Canon Chasuble, Sharon Clark as Lady Bracknell and Amanda Lawrence as Miss Prism.

"The Importance of Being Earnest" will premiere at the National Theatre's Lyttelton Theater on November 20 and close on January 25, 2025.
