Thane: Nine youths, including eight women, who were trapped in a waterfall on a hill while trekking near Panvel amid rain in Maharashtra's Raigad district, were rescued on Thursday. An officer gave this information.

Chief Vigilance Officer Suresh Mengde said the youth, aged between 18 and 20, were members of a trekking group and had gone hiking on the hill near Adai village on the Panvel-Matheran road when they got trapped in the waterfall in the morning. CIDCO, the planning agency of the state government.

He said that the fire department personnel under the jurisdiction of CIDCO received information at 9.40 am about a group of trackers stuck at the waterfall.

Mengde said a team of fire service personnel and local police swung into action and brought down all the nine trackers safely by around 11.45 pm.

He said fire brigade personnel received information at 9.40 am about trekkers trapped in a waterfall on the hill.

A team of fire service personnel climbed the hill and rescued them one by one, and all of them were brought down safely by around 11.45 pm, the official said.

He said that the rescued trackers were residents of Mira-Bhayander in Thane district and Kon in Panvel city.
